St Margaret’s Collaborate with Tales by Mail

Book-loving pupils at a Calne school were chosen by an international company to become a pod squad for its on-line reading club.

Children aged between 8-11 from St Margaret’s Prep are now collaborating with Tales by Mail (www.talesbymail.com) and are busy recording new podcasts which will be listened to by subscribers from all over the world.

Co-founder, Kate Morris-Double, said: “We are a bi-monthly book subscription and podcast for young book lovers.

“We are very excited to have partnered with St Margaret’s. We and the brilliant team at the school managed to pull this together during lockdown.”

At the beginning of the year Tales by Mail asked St Margaret’s to be guinea pigs for its first ever Tales by Mail Pod Squad. The school was sent 20 free books and ten pupils were chosen to read them and record their thoughts.

Despite having to manage the recording via Microsoft Teams during lockdown, the first podcast went live in July, the second in September and the third one will be broadcast during November.

St Margaret’s Year 4 teacher Heather Richards, who is leading the project, said: “It’s been great fun working with Tales by Mail and the children have gained so much from the experience.  It’s always nice to be involved in a collaborative project - they have particularly enjoyed receiving the proof copies of the books, being exposed to new genre, discussing their different opinions and having the opportunity to ask questions to the various authors.”
