As a school we feel it is very important to be able to play a role in helping others to improve their lives, as well as gaining a better understanding of how people live and work together. Our aim is for our children to have the skills and understanding required to enable them to become contributing members of a caring society.
The staff and children at St Margaret’s are proactive in their contribution to the life of the local community. Each academic year the school chooses a charity to support – this year we have chosen Alzheimer's Support Wiltshire after an impassioned nomination from a member of our School Council, whose grandfather has dementia.
Last year we chose to support The Dusty Yak Foundation, which supports children and orphanages in Nepal, and in previous years, we have been delighted to help Wiltshire Mind, Rainbow Trust, Evie's Gift, CALM, Wiltshire Sight, Julia's House, Hop, Skip and Jump, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Swindon Young Carers. We also regularly support both the Devizes and Calne Food Bank as part of our Harvest Festival celebrations.
We also work in partnership with a local schools and are always interested in developing new partnerships with the local community. We are happy to offer 3 community workshops for children attending local schools nearby. Our 'Simba' event is a Lion King themed Creative Arts workshop, which takes place in the Spring Term, while our 'Ultimate Challenge' Sports workshop and 'Volcano' themed STEM day take place in the Summer Term.
In 2022, we launched the 'Major Minors' - a new community choir for children in the local community. The choir, led by Mrs Dudley Fryer, Director of Vocal Studies at St Mary's Calne and Mrs Gibbin, our Head of Performing Arts, meets every Monday after school and gives local children the opportunity to sing in a choir and perform to an audience each term. The chior is open to children in Years 3-6. Should you require any further information, or you would like your child to join the 'Major Minors,' please , please contact our office.
