Healthy Eating 


We are committed to ensuring that every child at St Margaret's enjoys a delicious, nutritious and balanced meal each day. The lunch menu is imaginatively varied and all food is freshly prepared and cooked by our own catering staff, led by an experienced Catering Manager.

Every child from Bluebird Nursery through to Year 6 dine with their peers and a member of staff in the main school Dining Room situated at St Mary’s. Children in Nursery and Reception enjoy ‘family dining’ and are served their meals at the table by Early Years catering staff. Pupils in Years 1 and 2 are encouraged to make their own choices and in order to support this, a slightly reduced menu is offered to make decision-making a little easier! In the Prep Department we operate a ‘cafeteria’ system, where children are offered at least three choices of hot meals, as well as an extremely well stocked salad bar. Fruit salad and yogurts are available every day, plus an alternative dessert.
 

There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options available every day and other special dietary requirements are well catered for. The day's menu can include anything from beef bourguignon and teriyaki salmon to chicken with mango and coconut or lentil and mushroom cottage pie. Parents have the opportunity to sample our fare and those who have joined us at lunchtime have been very complimentary about the quality and variety of food on offer!
