St Margaret's Shine at Devizes Eistedfodd
The Devizes Eisteddfod is always an important event in the St Margaret’s calendar. Performance, music and the arts form a key part of the school curriculum and the pupils at St Margaret’s have been busy with their preparations in the lead-up to the event.
The event gives children the opportunity to perform and receive constructive feedback on a musical or creative arts piece.
The school was well-represented by children from across the Prep school in music, speech and drama, creative writing, poetry, handwriting and art. They came away with an impressive 15 Distinctions, 20 Commendations and 3 Merits, as well as a number of cup winners, who won their group, as did the school’s Chamber Choir, who won both the U11 Choir Plaque as well as the School Music Presentation Cup.
Mrs Gibbin, Head of Performing Arts explains: "
At St Margaret’s, the creative and expressive arts are an important part of our programme designed to make pupils creative and confident. We are a partner school for the Devizes Eisteddfod and value very much the opportunities it provides for our children to experience live performance for an audience and learn from a professional adjudicator. The Creative Arts classes are also a big success for our entrants, who love having constructive feedback from the judges. Above all, taking part in the festival is great fun!"
