A Roarsome Start to Spring Term for Year 1!

Yesterday Year 1 kicked off the new term and their new unit 'Dinosaur Detectives' with a day filled with fun activities to ignite their interests in this new exciting topic.

The children came to school dressed in their finest dinosaur and palaeontologist outfits and started their day with a dinosaur hunt around school - they looked for clues as to where the dinosaur had been and eventually found the dinosaur's egg!

They enjoyed excavating dinosaurs from ice and creating dinosaur fossils and footprints with moulds and playdough, as well as learning a 'Dinosaur Stomp' dance.

They also made their own moving dino models, using split pins and shared facts they already knew about dinosaurs.

This term the children will be looking at Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Dinosaurs and making their own version of the book using rhyming words, as scientists they will be considering how the dinosaurs adapted to survive and what they ate and as historians they will learn more about the Jurassic period - lots of exciting learning ahead, Year 1!
