Calne Foundation Trust

The Calne Foundation Trust is a charitable trust that exists to support present and future generations of pupils at St Margaret’s and St Mary’s, Calne.

It was established in 2012 and exists to ensure continuing investment in the schools’ facilities and to provide vital funding for Scholarships, Bursaries and other educational programmes benefiting the pupils of the two schools.  The Calne Foundation Trust helps the schools to realise their ambitions and make a real difference for generations to come.

10 Year Vision

The 10 year vision for St Margaret’s and St Mary’s reflects the core values of both schools:

  • To provide the most outstanding all-round education for our pupils
  • To provide a breadth of opportunities for our pupils to develop their talents and fulfil their potential
  • To provide an inspiring academic environment which fosters a love of learning, creativity, debate and scholarship in our pupils
  • To enhance our Pastoral Care, nurturing and caring for each individual pupil
  • To recruit, develop and retain the highest quality staff
  • To engender strong values in our pupils, giving them a sense of responsibility and service to others in our community and the wider world
  • To increase access to our transformative educational experience by supporting children from all backgrounds and the clergy, building on our Church of England foundation
  • To build on and enhance the reputation and strength of the school and ensure it remains a place of distinction for future generations

Future Projects

For St Margaret’s Preparatory School, the following projects have been identified as key areas for improvement/development:

  • The Southwell Centre for the Arts
  • Science Laboratory
  • Lansdowne House – Kindergarten and ‘Maggots’ after school club
  • Enhanced Support Facilities

Vision for Sport

Sport plays a very important part in life at both St Mary's and St Margaret’s. We strongly believe in the benefits of both individual and team sports and, whether an elite performer or a beginner, all pupils are encouraged to participate and develop their ability.  Learning to work and play as part of a team teaches trust, increases resilience and builds confidence and self-esteem, all valuable qualities which can be transferred to everyday life.

We have identified a number of priorities for new facilities to improve and enhance the physical education of all our pupils and we are delighted that a new full size Astroturf and 3 additional netball courts were built over the summer of 2014.  Moreover, we have leased offsite pitches for both schools which have already proved a great success.

The final phase of our Vision for Sport – an extension to the Sports Centre to include a sports hall and enhanced related facilities is now planned and we are asking parents, former parents, former pupils and friends to help us to accelerate this build.  Both schools are fully committed to this project but with philanthropic support we can bring the plans forward enabling our current pupils to enjoy and benefit from the new facilities.
